Enlarged high frequency oscillations of the median nerve somatosensory evoked potential and survival in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

ObjectiveA large N20 and P25 of the median nerve somatosensory evoked potential (SEP) predicts short survival in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). We investigated whether high frequency oscillations (HFOs) over N20 are enlarged and associated with survival in ALS.MethodsA total of 145 patients with ALS and 57 healthy subjects were studied. We recorded the median nerve SEP and measured the onset-to-peak amplitude of N20 (N20o-p), and peak-to-peak amplitude between N20 and P25 (N20p-P25p). We obtained early and late HFO potentials by filtering SEP between 500 and 1 kHz, and measured the peak-to-peak amplitude. We followed up patients until endpoints (death or tracheostomy) and analyzed the relationship between SEP or HFO amplitudes and survival using a Cox analysis.ResultsPatients showed larger N20o-p, N20p-P25p, and early and late HFO amplitudes than the control values. N20p-P25p was associated with survival periods (p = 0.0004), while early and late HFO amplitudes showed no significant association with survival (p = 0.4307, and p = 0.6858, respectively).ConclusionsThe HFO amplitude in ALS is increased, but does not predict survival.SignificanceThe enlarged HFOs in ALS might be a compensatory phenomenon to the hyperexcitability of the sensory cortex pyramidal neurons.     

First Japanese autopsy case showing LRRK2 mutation G2019S and TDP-43 proteinopathy

This is the first Japanese autopsy case of Leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) G2019S mutation with atypical TDP43 proteinopathy. Our case is important that presented clinically dysphagia and pathologically TDP-43 proteinopathy. TDP43 may play an important role of clinical presentation with LRRK2 G2019S mutation carriers.     

非霍奇金淋巴瘤侵犯骨髓时Cx43表达情况

目的:研究非霍奇金淋巴瘤(non-Hodgkin' s lymphoma,NHL)骨髓侵犯患者骨髓病灶中间隙连接蛋白（connexin，Cx）43表达情况。 方法:选取我院确诊的非霍奇金淋巴瘤骨髓侵犯患者26例，骨髓组织中查见呈灶性分布且已通过免疫组化证实为反应性淋巴细胞增生的患者9例，正常骨髓组织10例行免疫组化染色，根据阳性率及阳性程度评分后进行统计学分析。 结果:Cx43在NHL样本中的阳性率（30.8%）低于在反应性淋巴细胞增生样本（88.9%）及正常样本（100%）中的阳性率，差异有统计学意义（P<0.05）。而反应性淋巴细胞增生样本和正常样本间Cx43阳性率无统计学意义（P>0.05），但反应性淋巴细胞增生样本的阳性积分明显低于正常样本（P<0.05）。结论:非霍奇金淋巴瘤骨髓侵犯时病灶处Cx43表达情况显著低于反应性淋巴细胞增生及正常骨髓组织。     

Learners’ acceptance of a webinar for continuing medical education

The aim of this study was to evaluate learners’ acceptance of a webinar for continuing medical education that was instigated by the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS). A live, interactive webinar on orthognathic surgery was broadcast via the Internet. The learners’ acceptance of the webinar was evaluated using a standardized, validated questionnaire (Student Evaluation of Educational Quality, SEEQ). One hundred and fifty-three participants attended the webinar; 55 participants (46 male, nine female) completed the questionnaire. The mean age of the respondents was 41.6 ± 10.0 years. The age of male and female respondents did not differ significantly. The respondents were spread over five continents, with the highest number from Brazil. The SEEQ showed a high level of acceptance for almost all subscales. There was no statistically significant difference between male and female respondents concerning acceptance of the webinar (P = 0.614). The wide distribution of participants shows the potential for webinars as facilitators of barrier-free distribution of knowledge. The webinar was well accepted by the attendees independent of sex, specialty, and work experience. However, the sex ratio reflects the underrepresentation of women in oral and maxillofacial surgery.     

超短波对大鼠坐骨神经损伤后脊髓内GAP-43和CGRP表达的影响

目的探讨超短波对坐骨神经损伤后大鼠脊髓中GAP-43和CGRP表达的影响。方法60只成年雌性SD大鼠制成右侧坐骨神经钳夹损伤模型，随机分为超短波治疗组和非治疗对照组。免疫荧光方法观察术后1周、2周、4周、8周和12周不同时间点两组大鼠脊髓中GAP-43和CGRP表达的动态变化规律。结果大鼠坐骨神经损伤后脊髓内GAP-43和CGRPmRNA表达增强。术后1、2、4和8周超短波治疗组的变化与对照组比较差异有统计学意义（P〈0．05），且GAP-43的表达在时间上早于对照组。结论超短波在早期能够明显增加GAP-43和CGRP的表达量，提示早期应用超短波治疗能够促进周围神经的     

胃癌和胃癌前病变Cx43、PCNA的表达及意义

目的　通过观察间隙连接蛋白 Cx4 3和增殖细胞核抗原 (PCNA )在正常胃粘膜、胃癌前病变和胃癌中的表达和分布情况 ,探讨 Cx基因表达与胃癌发生的关系。　方法　运用 SP免疫组织化学方法检测 Cx4 3、PCNA在 70例原发性胃癌 ,6 2例中、重度不典型增生和 16例正常胃粘膜中表达规律。　结果　 Cx4 3在正常胃粘膜 ,中、重度不典型增生和胃癌中表达的阳性率分别为 10 0 % ,83.9%和 17.1% ,三者比较差异有显著性 (P<0 .0 5 )。 Cx4 3表达与胃癌的分化程度相关 (P<0 .0 1)。胃癌前病变、胃癌组中的 PCNA较正常胃粘膜组增高 (P<0 .0 1)。 Cx4 3表达与 PCNA呈负相关 (P<0 .0 1)。　结论　 Cx4 3表达降低在胃癌发生发展中起重要作用 ,Cx4 3可做为胃癌早期诊断的指标     

我国登革2型病毒43株包膜E蛋白基因的特征

对我国1987年流行的登革2型病毒43株包膜E蛋白基因的核苷酸序列进行了分析。结果表明登革2型病毒43株包膜E蛋白基因核苷酸序列含1485个核苷酸，编码495个氨基酸，并就其核苷酸序列及其相应的氨基酸序列与其它的登革2型病毒株进行了比较，发现核苷酸序列与我国1985年分离的登革2型病毒04株，新几内亚C株（NGC），牙买加株1409（JAM）和马来西亚当地流行株M1（登革出血热）、血2（登革休克综合征）、M3（登革热）同源性分别是95.8%、94.6%、97.5%、925%、92.7%和939%，氨基酸序列的同源性分别是94.3%、94.3%、96.0%、93.7%、93.7%和91.5%，推断出的氨基酸序列显示出12个保守的半胱氨酸残基和两个潜在的糖基化位点，分别位于Asn-67和Asn-153位。     

Effects of decentralization on the levels of GAP-43 and p38 (synaptophysin) in sympathetic adrenergic neurons: a semi-quantitative study using immunofluorescence and confocal laser scanning microscopy

The distribution of GAP-43 in superior cervical ganglion (SCG) and iris were studied in normal animals and following decentralization using immunofluorescence and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). GAP-43-like immunoreactivity (LI) was compared with p38 (synaptophysin)-LI, and tyrosin hydroxylase (TH)-LI. In the control SCG, GAP-43-LI and p38-LI were mainly localized in nerve terminals around the principal neurons. The neuronal perikarya were negative for GAP-43, but positive for p38 in a perinuclear zone, as well as positive for TH. SIF cells (Small Intensely Fluorescent cells, ganglionic interneurons) were positive for GAP-43, TH and p38. One day after decentralization, GAP-43-LI and p38-LI in nerve terminals around principal neurons had disappeared. Some of the principal neurons showed a weak GAP-43-immunoreactivity. Three days post-decentralization, GAP-43- and p38-positive nerve terminals around the neurons had reappeared in considerable numbers and the intra-ganglionic nerve bundles were positive for both antibodies. In the control irides, GAP-43-LI and p38-LI were distributed in a varicose pattern in the nerve bundles, around blood vessels and in the network of terminals. Double labelling studies showed that GAP-43-LI was colocalized with TH-LI and p38-LI. The network of terminals in the dilator plate of the irides was quantified by measuring the fluorescence intensity of randomly selected areas, using CLSM. Three days after decentralization the intensity of GAP-43-LI and p38-LI had significantly increased. TH-LI had decreased 8 days after decentralization. The results indicate that GAP-43-LI and p38-LI are normally present in the nerve fibers and terminals of both pre- and post-ganglionic neurons in adult rats. The expression of GAP-43-LI and p38-LI in post-ganglionic neurons is preganglionically regulated, as indicated by the increased expression after decentralization. The expression of p38 in these neurons is probably regulated via mechanisms that are separate from those which regulate GAP-43, since it showed a different time course than that of GAP-43-LI.
