Effectiveness of lasolvan in patients with chronic obstructive bronchitis and non-atopic bronchial asthma]

AIM: To define efficiency and mechanisms of action of mucoregulator lasolvan. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Lasolvan treatment was given to 50 patients with chronic nonspecific pulmonary diseases (CNPD). External respiration function (ERF) and viscosity of sputum were examined on Bodyscreen II and viscosimeter Reotest 2, respectively. RESULTS: Maximum effect was achieved on day 2-3 of lasolvan treatment: resistance of airways decreased 1.5-fold, forced pulmonary capacity and peak expiration flow increased. ERF improvement was associated with subjective improvement. Mean sputum viscosity remained unchanged. Reduction of minimal viscosity was found after the first intake of lasolvan. Later, maximal viscosity was higher in most of the patients. By day 7-10 amount of the sputum discharged forn 24 hours rose while maximal viscosity fell. CONCLUSION: Lasolvan is an effective mucoregulator which perfectly improves rheologic properties of bronchial secretion. Its ability to eliminate pathological bronchial secretion from small bronchi is of special importance. This allows to use lasolvan for prevention of cor pulmonale in CNPD patients.

Experience in the study of a live vaccine made from the TP-21 strain of Malayan Langat virus

The reaction-causing properties and immunogenicity of 2 cloned variants of the Malayan tick virus, Langat TP-21 strain, were studied. One clone, which was not pathogenic for rhesus monkeys when inoculated intracerebrally, caused the formation of antibody in moderate titre against tick-borne encephalitis virus in over 70% of persons given 2 inoculations of a live vaccine prepared from it. The other variant, which was pathogenic for rhesus monkeys, was characterized by greater immunogenicity but when given as a live vaccine caused acutely febrile reactions and other side-effects in 10% of inoculated persons 6 to 8 days after administration.

Osmoregulatory function of the kidneys in diabetes mellitus

In 42 patients with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus of average and grave forms with preserved glomerular renal function without signs of dehydration and hypovolemia renal function was investigated by maximum osmotic urine concentration (on dry food for 36 h) which was assessed on the basis of maximum osmolarity of urine and renal capacity for osmotic dilution of urine (on the 2nd hour after water load per os, 20 ml per 1 kg of body mass) assessed on the basis of the clearance of osmotically free water from 100 ml of the glomerular filtrate. Disorder of function of osmotic urine concentration revealed in 1/4 th of the patients, was moderate; it was most frequent in complication of disease with diabetic glomerulosclerosis, less frequent in diabetic angiopathies and was absent in patients without vascular lesion. Disorder of the capacity of the kidneys for osmotic urine dilution was revealed in 50% of the patients, it was probably of functional nature and was mainly associated with raised permeability of nephron distal segments for water.
