The calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor was first described as an entity by Danish pathologist Jens Pindborg in 1955. It is an uncommon and locally invasive benign odontogenic tumor. This article presents a case study for skills-directed intervention aiming to help healthy siblings of children with cancer control their emotions and gain self-control skills. Case study application of the intervention was with a boy aged 9 years and 8 months who had the verbal, cognitive, and motivational ability to learn and apply the skills. Intervention included the “Feeling Wheel” to enhance emotional identification, expression, understanding, acceptance, and control. Intervention also focused on teaching him to observe his automatic thoughts, change them to mediated ones, engage in internal dialogue, and seek/adopt alternative behaviors to gain self-control. In postintervention feedback, he reported less anxiety than previously, less inclination toward negative thinking, and more empowerment to deal with day-to-day difficulties he encountered.  相似文献

Objective: The objective of this review was to evaluate the effect of non-thermal atmospheric plasma (NTAP) on adhesives resin–dentin micro-tensile bond strength (μTBS) in previously published studies. Methods: Electronic search was conducted using the Medline, Cochrane library, and Scopus databases. The included studies were laboratory studies that investigated the effect of NTAP on adhesives μTBS to coronal dentin. Studies that evaluated the effect of NTAP on bond strength to indirect substrates, enamel or root dentin, were excluded. The methodological quality of included studies was assessed. Results: Thirteen studies were included in this systematic review. All the included studies were considered to have a medium risk of bias. NTAP significantly improved μTBS at 24 h or after short-term aging in five studies (38.5%) and both immediate and after long-term aging in 5 studies (38.5%). In two studies (15.4%), NTAP resulted in a short-term material-dependent effect that was not stable after long-term aging. Interestingly, in one study (7.7%), NTAP had a positive effect only in the etch-and-rinse (ER) mode after long-term aging. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this systematic review, NTAP application could enhance resin–dentin μTBS of ER adhesives or universal adhesives (UAs) applied in the ER mode. In the ER mode, the rewetting step after NTAP seems to be unnecessary. Because of the limited information currently available in the literature, further studies are required to evaluate the effect of the NTAP application on self-etch (SE) adhesives or UAs applied in the SE mode.  相似文献

Context: Hertia cheirifolia L. (Asteraceae) is traditionally used in Northern Africa to treat various inflammatory infections. However, few studies on this plant have been reported.

Objective: The anti-inflammatory activity of methanol extract of H. cheirifolia leaves was investigated using different experimental models.

Materials and methods: Phytochemical analysis was performed to determine phenolic compounds. Acute toxicity of the extract (2000?mg/kg) was examined in Swiss albino mice for 14 days, before croton oil-induced ear oedema in mice, carrageenan-induced paw oedema in Swiss albino rats, cotton pellet-induced granuloma in rats and carrageenan-induced air pouch in mice were conducted. The IL-1β and TNF-α release from concanavalin A-stimulated monocytes was measured by ELISA.

Results: Methanol extract of H. cheirifolia is rich in polyphenols and flavonoids. Cinnamic acid and rutin represent the major constituents. Methanol extract up to 2000?mg/kg did not produce any toxic effects. Topical application of 2?mg/ear of the extract produced 78.7% of inhibition on ear swilling. Oral pre-treatment of rats with 200 and 400?mg/kg of the extract inhibited paw oedema by 70% and 89%, respectively. At 200?mg/kg, granuloma dry and wet weights were reduced by 41.85% and 61.72%, respectively. Moreover, the treatment with methanol extract at 1?mg/kg exerted 62.7% of inhibition on leucocytes migrated into the ear pouch. TNF-α and IL-1β release was reduced by 69% and 78%, respectively, with 1?μg/mL of the extract.

Conclusion: Methanol extract of H. cheirifolia possesses a strong anti-inflammatory activity and may be considered an interesting source of effective anti-inflammatory compounds.  相似文献

This study aimed to examine a multi-mediator model explaining how exposure to parent-child physical aggression may link with adolescents’ peer-directed physical aggression and their own subjective happiness, in an understudied Israeli Arab population. Mediators included hostility, anger, need to belong, and self-control. Arab adolescents from northern Israel (N?=?155; 62 % girls, aged 16-17) completed questionnaires regarding parents’ physical violence toward them, their own aggression toward peers, need to belong, happiness, positive emotions, and selfcontrol skills. (a) Parent-child physical aggression linked positively with peerdirected aggression through the mediating associations of hostility with anger; (b) parent-child physical aggression linked negatively with peer-directed aggression and happiness through the mediation of adolescents’ increased need to belong; and (c) parent-child physical aggression was not directly linked with self-control, but selfcontrol directly linked negatively with peer-directed aggression and positively with happiness. Findings highlight pathways through which parent-child physical aggression may simultaneously influence adolescents’ aggressive behavior and happiness. The mediation detected possible process variables (e.g., yearning for belonging, self-control skills, hostile thoughts, and angry feelings) that researchers and clinicians can consider in designing prevention and treatment interventions to break the inter-generational cycle of violence.  相似文献

Background: Rheumatic fever (RF) is a major public health problem and it is an important cause of acquired cardiovascular disease in childhood and adolescence. The goal of effective management of rheumatic fever is to allow children with RF to function with minimal restrictions and enjoy a good quality of life(QOL) throughout their lives. The aim of this study was to identify the health-related quality of life of school- age children with rheumatic fever. Materials and Methods: A convenient sample of 100 school-age children with rheumatic fever and their mothers were selected from outpatient clinic and inpatient pediatric cardiac departments of EL-Shatby Children University Hospital, Alexandria, Egypt. Data was collected from children in the previously mentioned settings who fulfil the following criteria, the children's age ranged from 8 to 12 years & free from any associated disease. Two tools were used in Clinical Data of Rheumatic School-Age Children Questionnaire that was developed by the researcher and Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory scale (Peds QL). Results: The majority (78.3%) of school-age children with rheumatic fever had a neutral HRQOL and less than a quarter of them had high HRQOL. Only small percent (8.7%) of studied subjects had poor HRQOL. Children's parents' reports confirmed such results, where there were a significant positive correlations between children reports and their parents reports in the majority of studied items of HRQOL regarding rheumatic fever. Conclusion and Recommendations: Health education program for school-age children who had rheumatic fever and their parents towards the different measures of high HRQOL is recommended to help those children to improve their quality of life.  相似文献

Chemomechanical caries removal is an excellent method for minimally invasive caries excavation, and the removal agents are either sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl)‐ or enzyme‐based. The NaOCl‐based agents include GK‐101, GK‐101E (Caridex) and Carisolv, and the enzyme‐based agents include Papacarie and the experimental material, Biosolv. This review outlines the changes in chemomechanical caries removal methods and focuses on recently published laboratory and clinical studies. The historical development, mechanism of action, excavation time and biological effects on pulp and dental hard tissues are described. Based on existing evidence, the currently available chemomechanical caries removal methods are viable alternatives to conventional rotary instrument methods. Chemomechanical methods could be extremely useful in very anxious, disabled and paediatric patients. It does seem some of these agents would still benefit from quicker excavation times in order to achieve more universal acceptance. However, as a means of conserving the caries‐affected dentine, chemomechanical caries removal is possibly much more successful than conventional rotary instrumentation.  相似文献
