High-resolution magnetic resonance (MR) images of the skin were acquired with a whole-body MR system at 1.5 T by adding a specific imaging module: A saddle-shaped surface gradient coil was connected in place of one of the gradient coils of the system, and a surface radio-frequency coil with a 1.5-cm radius was placed at the center of the gradient coil. The images, acquired in 3 minutes 25 seconds, represent a field of view of 18 x 50 mm2, which corresponds to a pixel size of 70 x 390 micro2; the section thickness was 1.2 mm. With this spatial resolution, the different layers of the skin are clearly delineated: Epidermis appears as a high-signal-intensity layer, while dermis appears hypointense due to its very short T2. Pilosebaceous units appear as inclusions of epidermis inside dermis. The high quality of the images obtained enables in vivo MR characterization of skin.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To assess in vivo distal colon wall magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) feasibility on rabbits using an endoluminal radio frequency (RF) coil on a 1.5-T clinical scanner. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The endoluminal coil signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) was compared to a clinical four-element phased-array body coil. High-resolution (HR) MRI of rabbit colon walls was performed on six rabbits. The imaging protocol combined T1-weighted fast low-angle-shot (FLASH) sequences with and without fat saturation (FS), T2-weighted True-Fast imaging with steady state precession (Fisp), turbo spin-echo (TSE), and T1-weighted FLASH FS after contrast media injection. Images were compared to histological sections. Catheter tracking using an endoluminal coil in addition to external coils was also evaluated on two rabbits. RESULTS: HR images allow visualization and identification of rabbit colon wall layers. Real-time tracking allows a clear visualization and a good positioning of the endoluminal coil within the rabbit. CONCLUSION: Compared to a clinical multielement array coil, a dedicated endoluminal RF coil provides an important SNR increase at the region of interest (ROI). Very HR images of in vivo rabbit colon walls were achieved providing detailed information on the different wall layers. This technique could be considered on humans for accurate tumoral and inflammatory bowel disease diagnosis.  相似文献

Selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) using Yttrium-90 loaded glass microspheres injected in the hepatic artery is an emerging, minimally invasive therapy of liver cancer. A personalized intervention can lead to high concentration dose in the tumor, while sparing the surrounding parenchyma. We propose a computational model for patient-specific simulation of entire hepatic arterial tree, based on liver, tumors, and arteries segmentation on patient’s tomography. Segmentation of hepatic arteries down to a diameter of 0.5 mm is semi-automatically performed on 3D cone-beam CT angiography. The liver and tumors are extracted from CT-scan at portal phase by an active surface method. Once the images are registered through an automatic multimodal registration, extracted data are used to initialize a numerical model simulating liver vascular network. The model creates successive bifurcations from given principal vessels, observing Poiseuille’s and matter conservation laws. Simulations provide a coherent reconstruction of global hepatic arterial tree until vessel diameter of 0.05 mm. Microspheres distribution under simple hypotheses is also quantified, depending on injection site. The patient-specific character of this model may allow a personalized numerical approximation of microspheres final distribution, opening the way to clinical optimization of catheter placement for tumor targeting.  相似文献

It is a major challenge to guarantee homogeneous acquisition during a prospective multicenter magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) study that makes use of different devices. The goal of the multicenter Grand Ouest Glioblastoma Project (GOGP) was to correlate MRI quantitative parameters with biological markers extracted from image-guided biopsies. Therefore, it was essential to ensure spatial coherence of the parameters as well as the signal intensity and homogeneity. The project included the same MRI protocol implemented on six devices from different manufacturers. The key point was the initial acceptance of the imaging devices and protocol sequences. For this purpose, and to allow comparison of quantitative patient data, we propose a specific method for quality assessment. A common quality control based on 10 parameters was established. Three pulse sequences of the clinical project protocol were applied using three test-objects. A fourth test-object was used to assess T1 accuracy. Although geometry-related parameters, signal-to-noise ratio, uniformity, and T1 measurements varied slightly depending on the different devices, they nevertheless remained within the recommendations and expectations of the multicenter project. This kind of quality control procedure should be undertaken as a prerequisite to any multicenter clinical project involving quantitative MRI and comparison of data acquisitions with quantitative biological image-guided biopsies.  相似文献

Colorectal cancer is a major health issue worldwide. Conventional white light endoscopy (WLE) coupled to histology is considered as the gold standard today and is the most widespread technique used for colorectal cancer diagnosis. However, during the early stages, colorectal cancer is very often characterized by flat adenomas which develop just underneath the mucosal surface. The use of WLE, which is heavily based on the detection of morphological changes, becomes quite delicate due to subtle or quasi-invisible morphological changes of the colonic lining. Several techniques are currently being investigated in the scope of providing new tools that would allow such a diagnostic or assist actual techniques in so doing. We hereby present a novel technique where high spatial resolution MRI is combined with autofluorescence and reflectance spectroscopy in a bimodal endoluminal probe to extract morphological data and biochemical information, respectively. The design and conception of the endoluminal probe are detailed and the promising preliminary results obtained in vitro (home-built phantom containing eosin and rhodamine B), on an organic sample (the kiwi fruit) and in vivo on a rabbit are presented and discussed.  相似文献

Errors in the flip angle have to be corrected in many magnetic resonance imaging applications, especially for T1 quantification. However, the existing methods of B1 mapping fail to measure lower values of the flip angle despite the fact that these are extensively used in dynamic acquisition and 3D imaging. In this study, the nonlinearity of the radiofrequency (RF) transmit chain, especially for very low flip angles, is investigated and a simple method is proposed to accurately determine both the gain of the RF transmitter and the B1 field map for low flip angles. The method makes use of the spoiled gradient echo sequence with long repetition time (TR), such as applied in the double-angle method. It uses an image acquired with a flip angle of 90° as a reference image that is robust to B1 inhomogeneity. The ratio of the image at flip angle alpha to the image at a flip angle of 90° enables us to calculate the actual value of alpha. This study was carried out at 1.5 and 4.7 T, showing that the linearity of the RF supply system is highly dependent on the hardware. The method proposed here allows us to measure the flip angle from 1° to 60° with a maximal uncertainty of 10% and to correct T1 maps based on the variable flip angle method.  相似文献
