Abstract:Objective To test the contrast visual acuity at different contrasts in dark environment between aviators and emmetropes.Methods LogMAR visual acuities of 20 aviators and 20 emmetropes were measured at four contrasts(100%,25%,10%,5%) in bright and dark backgrounds with a multi-functional visual acuity tester(MFVA-100).Results In bright and dark backgrounds,the visual acuity of all the subjects decreased gradually with the decrease of contrasts.At the same contrast,visual acuity in dark background were worse than visual acuity in bright background and aviators' visual acuity was better than emmetropes.In bright and dark background,visual acuity of aviators and emmetropes at 100% contrast was linearly related to the visual acuity at 25%,10%,5% contrasts respectively(all P0.001).Conclusion The visual acuity of aviators and emmetropes in bright background are higher than visual acuity in dark background,and decreases with the decrease of contrasts.Visual acuity of aviator at four different contrasts are all higher than the visual acuity of emmetropes in both bright and dark backgrounds.
