The aim of this study was to investigate somatic properties and physiological capacity, and analyze kinematic parameters in the 200 m breaststroke swimming race. Twenty-seven male swimmers participated in the study. They were 15.7±1.98 years old. Their average height was 1.80 ± 0.02 m and lean body mass (LBM) was 62.45 ± 8.29 kg. Physiological exercise capacity was measured in two separate 90 sec. all-out tests, one for the arms and second for legs. During the tests total work of arm cranking (TWAR) and cycling (TWLG) as well as peak of VO2 for arm (VO2peakAR) and leg (VO2peakLG) were measured. The underwater swimmers body movements were recorded during the all-out swimming 200m breaststroke speed test using an underwater camera installed on a portable trolley. The swimming kinematic parameters and propulsive or non-propulsive movement phases of the arms and legs as well as average speed (V200), surface speed (V200surface) and swimming speed in turn zones (V200turns) were extracted. V200surface was significantly related to the percentage of leg propulsion and was shown to have large effect on VO2peakLG in the Cohen analysis. V200turns depended significantly on the indicators of physiological performance and body structure: TWAR, VO2peak LG and LBM, LBM, which in turn strongly determined the measured results of TWAR, TWLG, VO2peakAR and VO2peakLG. The V200turns and V200surface were strongly associated with V200, 0.92, p < 0.001 and 0.91, p < 0.001 respectively. In each lap of the 200m swimming there was an increased percentage of propulsion of limb movement observed simultaneously with a reduction in the gliding phase in the breaststroke cycles.

  • In this observations the body’s functional capacity have an important impact on achieving good breaststroke swimming results, the V200 was moderately associated on VO2peakLG, moreover, separate V200turns depended with VO2peakLG and on LBM and TWAR.

Lucilia sericata bottle fly worms can be used to heal infected, chronic, or necrotic wounds, including those associated with ulceration and diabetic foot. The study aimed to evaluate changes in the microflora in patients treated with L sericata larvae due to leg ulcers and diabetic foot. One hundred twenty-nine patients diagnosed with lower limb ulceration and diabetic foot were enrolled in the study, of which 80 of them met the eligibility criteria for maggot debridement therapy (MDT). On the contrary, 49 unqualified patients were offered ozone therapy (22 with leg ulcers; 27 with diabetic foot). In each of these patients, a microbiological swab was performed before and after the start of therapy. The group of 80 patients was further divided into four equal groups in terms of the treated area (lower leg vs foot) and the number of larvae/cm2 (5 vs 10). Twenty-three particular species of bacteria in the infected wound were studied microbiologically in terms of presence/absence within the wound environment before and after treatment of patients with diabetic foot and lower limb ulceration. It was noted that there was a more intensive bacterial accumulation in the feet of patients compared to legs; furthermore, this applies to almost all analysed species. Diabetes status is also a clinical factor that generates a lower chance of bacterial appearance in the wound environment. Densification of MDT larvae per wound area unit also reduced the chance of the presence of Corynebacterium species, Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus MSSA, and Streptococcus coagulase negativa; however, it increased the likelihood of occurrence for Proteus mirabilis and the Proteus species. A microbiological analysis in this non-reference study shows the efficacy of larval therapy for leg and foot ulcers. Rearrangement of the microflora within the wound has been reported as a result of the therapy.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC-Ag), and CYFRA 21-1 are the most useful markers for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but neuron-specific enolase (NSE) is a tumor maker of choice for SCLC. The determination of NSE in NSCLC could allow selection of patients with neuroendocrine features. NSCLC patients whose tumors have neuroendocrine properties may be more responsive to chemotherapy; however, these tumors have been reported to be more aggressive. Tumor markers are not suitable for diagnosis; their principal applications are in monitoring of therapy and prognosis. METHODS: Tumor markers were measured in 200 untreated patients with squamous cell lung cancer (SQC) and a reference group (n = 220; 124 healthy persons and 96 patients with nonmalignant lung disease). CEA and SCC-Ag were measured by microparticle enzyme immunoassays on Abbott AxSYM and IMx analyzers. CYFRA 21-1 and NSE were measured by electrochemiluminescence immunoassays on the Roche Elecsys 2010. RESULTS: CEA, SCC-Ag, CYFRA 21-1, and NSE were increased above the cutoffs in 26%, 32%, 67%, and 28% of tested patients, respectively. The area under the ROC curve for CYFRA 21-1 was higher than those for CEA, SCC-Ag, and NSE (SQC vs controls). CYFRA 21-1 and CEA were significantly higher in advanced SQC than in early stages of disease (P <0.0001 and P <0.0004, respectively). In multivariate analysis of survival, CYFRA 21-1 was an independent but nonspecific prognostic factor in the operable group of SQC patients, whereas NSE was an independent prognostic factor in the advanced stages of disease. CONCLUSION: CYFRA 21-1 is an independent prognostic factor in earlier stages and NSE in the advanced stages of SQC.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: There is a need for consensus concerning universal methodological criteria for detection of suboptimal response to acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) therapy. Therefore, animal models to test for ASA effectiveness remain of interest. Our objective was to verify the usefulness of multiparametric whole-blood impedance aggregometry and thromboxane A(2) generation, which are the most popular techniques used for monitoring of ASA treatment effectiveness. METHODS: Using multiparametric analysis of whole-blood impedance aggregometry, we examined which parameters of platelet aggregation or disaggregation allow for the best discrimination between ASA-treated (4 or 40 mg/kg for 60 days) and non-treated male rats. The effectiveness of ASA-mediated inhibition of platelet cyclooxygenase-1 was verified by determination of plasma thromboxane B(2) and urine 11-dehydro-thromboxane B(2), accepted as reference assays for monitoring of ASA-mediated platelet cyclooxygenase-1 inhibition. RESULTS: Two of the platelet agonists used, collagen (1 mg/L) and arachidonic acid (0.5 mmol/L), allowed discrimination of control and ASA-treated animals, whereas adenosine diphosphate (5 micromol/L) was not effective. It is noteworthy that only ASA-mediated changes in duration of the rising phase for platelet aggregation and the area under the curve for collagen-induced aggregation allowed significant discrimination between low and high ASA dose and remained correlated with the reference parameter, plasma thromboxane B(2). CONCLUSIONS: Analysis of aggregation curves, routinely based only on the amplitude and rate of platelet aggregation, may not be enough discriminative to distinguish between varying ASA doses and treatment schedules.  相似文献

Background/Aims: Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α is responsible for increased expression of genes engaged in angiogenesis. Our previous study indicated capillary rarefaction and atrophy of glycolytic fibers, mainly in locomotor muscles of uremic animals. Perhaps these changes are secondary to disturbances of HIF-1α in skeletal muscles. Methods: Expression of HIF-1α at mRNA and protein levels, as well as mRNA of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR)-1, VEGFR-2, endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), in gastrocnemius muscle (MG) and longissimus thoracic muscle (ML) were measured by RT-PCR and Western blot. Rats were randomized to subtotal nephrectomy (CKD5/6), uninephrectomy (CKD1/2) or sham operation (controls). Results: For CKD5/6 versus controls, mRNA levels for HIF-1α, VEGF-A, VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2 were significantly reduced only in MG, while eNOS was significantly decreased and iNOS was significantly increased only in ML. Western blot analysis indicated significantly increased HIF-1α protein levels in MG and ML from CKD1/2 animals versus controls, whereas in the CKD5/6 group, the level of HIF-1α protein decreased significantly in MG and increased significantly in ML versus controls and CKD1/2. Conclusion: The reduced expression of HIF-1α mRNA and protein in locomotor muscle from CKD5/6 animals may be involved in the pathogenesis of uremic myopathy. Increased expression of iNOS in the postural muscles may act as a protective factor through HIF-1α stabilization.  相似文献
