We report a case of intraocular Linguatula in healthy young female who presented with a history of trivial trauma, dislocated lens, inflammation and secondary glaucoma. A mobile worm was seen in the anterior chamber. Pars plana lensectomy and vitrectomy was planned to remove both the cataractous lens and the parasite during which the worm disappeared from view but was later recovered from the cassette fluid. Choleraphage φ149 DNA is a linear double-stranded molecule 69 × 106 Da or 104 kilobase pairs (kbp). From restriction enzyme analysis, it has been concluded that the DNA is circularly permuted. There are at least three S1 nuclease-sensitive sites along the length of the molecule. These sites represent single-strand interruptions repairable by T4 DNA ligase. This paper concentrates on the segmentation of histological images of oral sub-mucous fibrosis (OSF) into its constituent layers. In this regard hybrid segmentation algorithm shows very interesting results. The segmentation results depict the superiority of hybrid segmentation algorithm (HSA) in comparison to region growing algorithm (RGA). In clinical sense, the presented method provides an automatic means for segmenting histological layers (reference class map provided by the expert). Geriatric population is growing very fast but they do not receive due attention from the family members as well as in the society. So incidence of malnutrition is likely to be very high in them. This fact prompted us to evaluate nutritional status in this group of population. In this study persons more than 60 years were included. A total of 76 patients, both inpatients and outpatients, in a tertiary care centre were studied. Their ages ranged from 60-84 years. Their nutritional status were assessed clinically by body mass index (BMI), triceps skin fold thickness, waist-hip ratio (WHR), mid-arm muscle circumference (MAMC) and from investigational parameters like blood for total and differential counts, ESR, serum for albumin, sugar, urea, creatinine, cholesterol and routine urine examination. According to BMI, undernutrition was found approximately in a quarter of all the elderly under study while overnutrition which includes both overweight (BMI 25-29.9 kg/m2 of body surface area) and obesity (BMI > or = 30 kg/ m2 of body surface area) was found in only 14.5% of patients. This paper presents an automatic method for classification of progressive stages of oral precancerous conditions like oral submucous fibrosis (OSF). The classifier used is a three-layered feed-forward neural network and the feature vector, is formed by calculating the wavelet coefficients. Four wavelet decomposition functions, namely GABOR, HAAR, DB2 and DB4 have been used to extract the feature vector set and their performance has been compared. The samples used are transmission electron microscopic (TEM) images of collagen fibers from oral subepithelial region of normal and OSF patients. The present study was conducted to investigate the role of arjunolic acid (AA) against sodium fluoride (NaF)-induced cytotoxicity and necrotic cell death in murine hepatocytes. Dose-dependent studies suggest that incubation of hepatocytes with NaF (100mM) for 1h significantly decreased the cell viability as well as intracellular antioxidant power. Besides, NaF administration increased the activities of the membrane leakage enzymes and accumulation of intracellular reactive oxygen species; decreased the activities of the antioxidant enzymes, the glutathione (GSH) and total thiol contents; and elevated the level of oxidised glutathione (GSSG), lipid peroxidation end products as well as protein carbonyl content. In addition to the oxidative impairments, fluoride exposure caused hepatic cell death mainly via the necrotic pathway as supported by the flowcytometric and DNA fragmentation analyses. Incubation with AA (100 microg/ml) both prior to and in combination with NaF almost normalized the altered activities of antioxidant indexes. AA treatment enhanced the cellular antioxidant capability and protected hepatocytes against NaF-induced cytotoxicity and necrotic death. The cytoprotective activity of AA was found to be comparable to that of a known antioxidant, vitamin C. Combining, data suggest that AA plays a protective role against NaF-induced cellular damage and prevents hepatocytes from necrotic death. 相似文献
