Because some users develop depigmentation after the use of melanogenesis‐inhibiting products containing the quasi‐drug ingredient Rhododenol, Japanese Dermatological Association (JDA) established a Special Committee on the Safety of Cosmetics Containing Rhododenol on July 17, 2013 and management guide for dermatologists has been updated on the website in order to delineate the diagnostic criteria for Rhododenol‐induced leukoderma and provides a broad guide for standard treatment based on current knowledge. This guide is produced on the basis of the guide (version 7) updated on June 20, 2014 in the website. Rhododenol‐induced leukoderma refers to depigmentation of varying severity that develops after the use of cosmetics containing Rhododenol, mainly at the site of use. In most cases, repigmentation of part or all the affected area is evident after discontinuation. Histopathologically cellular infiltration around the hair follicles and melanophages are present in most cases. The number of melanocytes in the lesion is declined but not totally absent in most cases. Rhododenol itself is a good substrate for tyrosinase, resulting in the formation of Rhododenol metabolites (e.g., Rhododenol quinone). Melanocytes are damaged by Rhododenol metabolites during the subsequent metabolic process. The continued use of cosmetics containing Rhododenol thus induces tyrosinase activity‐dependent cytotoxicity in melanocytes in the epidermis at application sites, resulting in decreasing the amount of melanin produced by melanocytes; the addition of some other factor to this process is believed to subsequently cause the decrease or disappearance of melanocytes themselves from the epidermis.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to review health information on nutrition in Japanese newspaper articles. The Nikkei Database was used to select articles published in five major newspapers: Asahi, Sankei, Nikkei, Mainichi and Yomiuri. All these dailies have nationwide circulation. The search period was for 7 years, from January 1993 to December 1999. The keywords "diet," "health," and "nutrition" were used. Consequently, 182 articles were selected and analyzed by determining content and coverage. The articles were published to be targeted for the general population: 123 (67.6%), schoolchildren: 21 (11.5%), and elderly: 18 (9.9%). The main source of the newspaper articles on diet was health professionals, such as nutritionists and medical doctors. As diet related health problems, the lifestyle-related diseases, obesity, hypertension, and mental health were introduced in the newspapers. Few articles commented on the relationship between oral health and diet, and dental professionals were not much involved in providing health information on diet. The newspaper is a major source for the general public to obtain health information. It is clear that oral diseases and functional disorder influence daily eating habits. It was suggested that dental professionals should provide such information to the general public, using many occasions, such as conducting health guidance at dental clinics, health education at health centers or schools, and also through mass media.  相似文献

This study investigated the oral health awareness of aesthetic problems among adolescents. In 2002, a questionnaire survey on oral malodor and teeth stains was conducted at a junior and senior high school for males in Tokyo. The subjects were 783 students. The following results were obtained. (1) The rate of students who were concerned about other persons' oral malodor was significantly higher for the students in the senior high school than in the junior high school. The attitudes toward oral malodor varied depending on whether the target was family or friends. (2) Forty percent of junior high school students and first-year senior high school students answered that they had been conscious about their oral malodor. The rate was 60% for second- and third-year senior high school students. There was a significant difference between the two groups. (3) Thirty-five percent of the students who were conscious about their oral malodor felt some difficulties in daily life such as communication with other persons. (4) Fifty percent of the students replied that they had been conscious about their teeth stains. However, most of them felt no difficulties in daily life. From these results, it was revealed that almost half of the junior and senior high school students had been concerned about oral malodor and teeth stains. It is necessary to provide adequate dental health education on oral malodor and teeth stains for students through school oral health promotion activities as well as in dental clinics.  相似文献

The insular cortex plays important roles in vocal communication, but the origin of auditory input to the insular cortex has not been fully clarified. Here we studied the auditory thalamic input to the insular cortex using mice as a model system. An insular auditory field (IAF) has recently been identified in mice. By using retrograde neuronal tracing, we identified auditory thalamic neurons projecting to the IAF, primary auditory cortex (AI), and anterior auditory field (AAF). After mapping the IAF, AAF, and AI by using optical imaging, we injected a distinct fluorescent tracer into each of the three fields at frequency‐matched locations. Tracer injection into the IAF resulted in retrogradely labeled cells localized ventromedially in the lemniscal division, i.e., the ventral subdivision of the medial geniculate body (MGv). Cells retrogradely labeled by injections into the AAF were primarily found in the medial half of the MGv, whereas those from AI injections were located in the lateral half, although some of these two subsets were intermingled within the MGv. Interestingly, retrogradely labeled cells projecting to the IAF showed virtually no overlap with those projecting to the AAF or the AI. Dual tracer injections into two sites responding to low‐ and high‐frequency tones within each of the three auditory fields demonstrated topographic organizations in all three thalamocortical projections. These results indicate that the IAF receives thalamic input from the MGv in a topographic manner, and that the MGv–IAF projection is parallel to the MGv–AAF and MGv–AI projections. J. Comp. DCs and epithelial cell‐derived thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) have pivotal roles in allergic inflammation. TSLP stimulates myeloid DCs to express OX40‐ligand (OX40L) and CCL17, which trigger and maintain Th2 cell responses. We have previously shown that statins, which are HMG‐CoA reductase inhibitors, have the ability to suppress type I IFN production by plasmacytoid DCs. Here, we extended our previous work to examine the immunomodulatory effect of statins on allergic responses, particularly the TSLP‐dependent Th2 pathway induced by myeloid DCs. We found that treatment of TSLP‐stimulated DCs with either pitavastatin or simvastatin suppressed both the DC‐mediated inflammatory Th2 cell differentiation and CRTH2+CD4+ memory Th2 cell expansion and also repressed the expressions of OX40L and CCL17 by DCs. These inhibitory effects of statins were mimicked by treatment with either a geranylgeranyl‐transferase inhibitor or Rho‐kinase inhibitor and were counteracted by the addition of mevalonate, suggesting that statins induce geranylgeranylated Rho inactivation through a mevalonate‐dependent pathway. We also found that statins inhibited the expressions of phosphorylated STA6 and NF‐κB‐p50 in TSLP‐stimulated DCs. This study identified a specific ability of statins to control DC‐mediated Th2 responses, suggesting their therapeutic potential for treating allergic diseases.  相似文献

To better understand the cellular origins and differentiation of anal canal epithelial neoplasms, the immunohistochemical profiles of the anal canal epithelium in humans and swine were evaluated. Formalin‐fixed tissue sections were immunostained for mucin (MUC: MUC2, MUC5AC, MUC5B), desmoglein 3 (DGS3), p63, CDX2, SOX2, and α‐smooth muscle actin (α‐SMA). The anal transitional zone (ATZ) epithelium covered the anal sinus and consisted of a stratified epithelium with mucous cells interspersed within the surface lining. Anal glands opened into the anal sinus. Ducts and acini of intraepithelial or periepithelial mucous type were the main structures of human anal glands, whereas those of swine were compound tubuloacinar mixed glands. Distal to the ATZ epithelium, non‐keratinized stratified squamous epithelium merged with the keratinized stratified squamous epithelium of the perianal skin. MUC5AC expression predominated over MUC5B expression in the ATZ epithelium, while MUC5B expression was higher in the anal glands. SOX2 was positive in the ATZ epithelium, anal glands, and squamous epithelium except in the perianal skin. In humans, DGS3 was expressed in the ATZ epithelium, anal gland ducts, and squamous epithelium. p63 was detected in the ATZ epithelium, anal glands, and squamous epithelium. Myoepithelial cells positive for α‐SMA and p63 were present in the anal glands of swine. Colorectal columnar cells were MUC5B+/MUC2+/CDX2+/MUC5AC?/SOX2?. The ATZ epithelium seems to be a distinctive epithelium, with morphological and functional features allowing smooth defecation. The MUC5AC+/SOX2+/MUC2?/CDX2? profile of the ATZ epithelium and anal glands is a useful feature for diagnosing adenocarcinoma arising from these regions. Obesity is a serious global health issue; however, the roles of genetics and epigenetics in the onset and progression of obesity are still not completely understood. The aim of this study was to determine the role of Kdm4b, which belongs to a subfamily of histone demethylases, in adipogenesis and fat metabolism in vivo. We established conditional Kdm4b knockout mice. Inactivation of Kdm4b in adipocytes (K4bKO) induced profound obesity in mice on a high fat diet (HFD). The HFD‐fed K4bKO mice exhibited an increased volume of fat mass and higher expression levels of adipogenesis‐related genes. In contrast, the genes involved in energy expenditure and mitochondrial functions were down‐regulated. Supporting these findings, the energy expenditure of Kdm4b‐deficient cells was markedly decreased. In addition, progression of glucose intolerance and hepatic steatosis with hepatocellular damages was observed. These data indicate that Kdm4b is a critical regulator of systemic metabolism via enhancing energy expenditure in adipocytes.  相似文献
