The objective of the current study was to evaluate the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) of submucous nodules from the oral cavity and head and neck region as an auxiliary diagnostic tool. Fifty patients with nodule lesions in the oral cavity and the head and neck region were selected. All of them were submitted to FNAB and to either incisional or excisional biopsy. The diagnoses from the FNABs were compared with the biopsy diagnosis as the gold standard. All the cases of FNAB were analyzed by a single oral pathologist prior to the biopsy diagnosis. The results showed that the sensitivity of FNAB was 75%, its specificity was 96% and its accuracy was 58.8%. The false positive and false negative rates were 6.7% and 13.3%, respectively. The positive predictive value was 86% and the negative predictive value was 93%. The inconclusive rate was 16/50. FNAB displayed a high success rate for identifying both malignant and benign lesions, but a low accuracy for making a final diagnosis.  相似文献

The control of body temperature in Spontaneously Hypertensive Rat (SHR) subjected to exercise in warm environment was investigated. Male SHR and Wistar rats were submitted to moderate exercise in temperate (25°C) and warm (32°C) environments while body and tail skin temperatures, as well as oxygen consumption, were registered. Total time of exercise, workload performed, mechanical efficiency and heat storage were determined. SHR had increased heat production and body temperature at the end of exercise, reduced mechanical efficiency and increased heat storage (p < 0.05). Furthermore, these rats also showed a more intense and faster increase in body temperature during moderate exercise in the warm environment (p < 0.05). The lower mechanical efficiency seen in SHR was closely correlated with their higher body temperature at the point of fatigue in warm environment (p < 0.05). Our results indicate that SHR exhibit significant differences in body temperature control during moderate exercise in warm environment characterized by increased heat production and heat storage during moderate exercise in warm environment. The combination of these responses result in aggravated hyperthermia linked with lower mechanical efficiency.

Lumbar synovial cysts can be a source of low back pain with or without radiculopathy depending upon the size and location of the mass. Options for treatment range from analgesics to surgery, depending upon the degree of nerve root or spinal cord impingement. Attempts at minimally invasive treatment such as computed tomography‐assisted aspiration and cyst rupture are documented in the radiology literature with varying degrees of reported success. This case report is the first to document the fluoroscopically‐guided management of a lumbar synovial cyst in the pain medicine literature and highlights the knowledge and technical skills required when treating such cases.  相似文献

Objective

To identify the type and frequency of stressful and painful procedures, the use of pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies; to identify relationships between demographic and clinical variables with frequency of procedures and pain management.

Design

A prospective longitudinal study was conducted in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) of two hospitals in the city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. 140 newborns admitted to the NICU between June 2014 and January 2015 were included.

Results

A total of 21,291 procedures were documented, 18,131 (85.2%) stressful procedures and 3,160 (14.8%) invasive skin-breaking painful procedures. Each day of hospitalization increased by 10.9 the number of stressful procedures and by 2.2 the number of painful procedures. Furthermore, for each day of hospitalization, non-pharmacological strategies registered increased by 3.4% and pharmacological strategies, increased by 9.3%.

Conclusion

Neonates underwent a high number of stressful and painful procedures and with infrequent use of pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies during the entire hospitalization.  相似文献

The in vitro susceptibility of dermatophytes to the azole antifungals itraconazole, fluconazole and ketoconazole was evaluated by broth macro and microdilution methods, according to recommendations of the CLSI, with some adaptations. Twenty nail and skin clinical isolates, four of Trichophyton mentagrophytes and 16 of T. rubrum were selected for the tests. Itraconazole minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) varied from < 0.03 to 0.25 microg/mL in the macrodilution and from < 0.03 to 0.5 microg/mL in the microdilution methods; for fluconazole, MICs were in the ranges of 0.5 to 64 microg/mL and 0.125 to 16 microg/mL by the macro and microdilution methods, respectively, and from < 0.03 to 0.5 microg/mL by both methods for ketoconazole. Levels of agreement between the two methods (+/- one dilution) were 70% for itraconazole, 45% for fluconazole and 85% for ketoconazole. It is concluded that the strains selected were inhibited by relatively low concentrations of the antifungals tested and that the two methodologies are in good agreement especially for itraconazole and ketoconazole.  相似文献
