Delayed effects of long-term administration of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor to mice

We studied the effects of chronic administration of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor in nonmobilizing doses to mice. Over 18 months of the study, 55% animals of the treatment group died of unknown cause, blood diseases and tumors were found in 20% mice, and in 5% animals pathological changes were absent. Control mice had no diseases (normal values of total and differential leukocyte count). The diagnoses made over the first 7 months mainly included myeloproliferative diseases. Solid tumors were found at later terms. Suppurative inflammation at the site of injection was observed in all mice after 3-month treatment with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor. Our results indicate that chronic administration of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor in low doses leads to the development of etiologically different tumors and sharply reduced animal life span. A Direct Comparison of the Skin Conductance and Skin Resistance Methods

The purpose of the present study was a direct comparison between simultaneous recordings of skin conductance and skin resistance. Sixty male students received a series of 30 white noise stimuli, while measures were taken continuously from four sites on the palmar surfaces of the fingers. Evaluations were made for response amplitudes, recovery, and for an approximate area measure. Magnitude of reactions and reliabilities were compared using ANOVA procedures. Behavioral concordances were estimated as correlations with the subjects' ratings of stimulus intensities. Conductance and resistance measures do not differ in amplitude, in area, or in strength of their reliabilities and behavioral concordances. No differences in any respect are found between sites. Skin conductance yields significantly (p < .01) shorter recovery times than skin resistance, which is discussed in terms of membrane permeability change.     

慢性病儿童家长疾病知识了解现状及情绪障碍调查分析

目的了解部分慢性疾病儿童家长对疾病知识的了解现状和焦虑、抑郁情绪障碍的发生情况。方法采用一般情况调查表、疾病知识问卷和抑郁自评量表(SDS)、焦虑自评量表(SAS),对68例慢性疾病儿童家长进行调查,并与对照组进行对照。结果慢性疾病儿童家长中有32.35%存在焦虑情绪,22.06%存在抑郁情绪,其中SAS得分与对照组相比具有显著性差异(P<0.01)。73.53%病儿家长对相关疾病知识不甚了解。结论在诊治慢性疾病儿童的同时做好健康教育工作和予以家长心理关注十分重要。     

中晚期重型乙型肝炎血浆置换与内科治疗生存率的比较

观察血浆置换、内科治疗对中晚期重型乙型病毒性肝炎生存率的影响,探索中晚期重型肝炎的治疗方法。方法观察在内科治疗基础上给予血浆置换患者的肝功能、并发症及疾病的转归,与同期仅予内科综合治疗的患者相比较,对相应的临床资料进行统计学分析,从而了解两种治疗方法的疗效。结果血浆置换组36例,18例好转、18例死亡,内科治疗组32例,13例好转、19例死亡,两组之间患者生存情况无统计学差异;肝功能指标(ALT、AST、SB、ALB、TC、ChE和凝血酶原时间(PT)也无统计学差异。结论与内科治疗相比较,在其基础上给予血浆置换并不能提高中晚期重型病毒性肝炎生存率;中晚期重型肝炎患者的预后决定于其肝功能衰竭的程度。     

Intracytoplasmic and intranuclear Reinke's crystals in a testicular Leydig-cell tumor diagnosed by fine-needle aspiration cytology: a case report with review of the literature

We report on the cytopathologic findings of a Leydig-cell tumor of the testis in a young adult male with no evidence of endocrine dysfunction. The preoperative diagnosis was based on fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) alone, which was subsequently confirmed on histopathology. The present case was of interest on account of the paucity of literature regarding the cytodiagnosis of this lesion. In addition, the finding of intracytoplasmic lipofuscin pigment and several intracytoplasmic as well as intranuclear Reinke's crystals served to clinch the diagnosis on FNA. Therefore, the use of FNAC, especially in the presence of diagnostic Reinke's crystals, may vitiate the need for more invasive biopsy procedures in the preoperative diagnosis of testicular Leydig-cell tumors.     

上海人群中HLA-DR7单倍型同时表达两种纯合分型细胞检出的特异性Dw7c及Dw3

采用国际组织相容性会议提供的纯合分型细胞(HTC)和血清对上海地区56例无亲缘关系个体作HLA-A、B、C、D、DR、DQ分型并研究中国人DR-Dw关系后,发现11例Dw3阳性个体中仅5例表达命名相当的DR3特异性,另外6例Dw3阳性者却与DR7及Dw7c(Dw7+Dw17)共同表达于一条单倍型,使同一个体呈现HLA-D“三联体”这样一种未曾报导过的格局。中国人Dw3因而分成两类:一类见于传统的单倍型HLA-DR3-Dw3;另一类组成新单倍型HLA-DR7-Dw7c-Dw30。间接证据表明,后者的出现可能是中国人中一个新的HLA-DQw2分裂体同时参与Dw7c及Dw3功能表达并被HTC所识别的结果。     

Atypical Glomus Tumor in the Mediastinum: A Case Report with Immunohistochemical and Ultrastructural Studies

A case is reported of atypical glomus tumor occurring in the posterior inferior mediastinum of a 26-year-old woman complaining of severe back pain. The tumor was composed of atypical small, round tumor cells with scattered mitotic figures. In addition to sheet-like, diffuse proliferation of the tumor cells, some areas of the tumor contained small “glo-moid” cells arranged in organoid and hemangiopericytoma-like patterns. Immunohistochemically, many tumor cells were positive for muscle-type actins and a few cells were focally positive for desmin. Ultrastructural studies revealed smooth muscle features of tumor cells, that is, pinocytotic vesicles, external laminas, dense plaques, and occasional thin filaments with dense bodies. The patient remained well for 5 years and 4 months after the operation without additional radiation and chemotherapy. The tumor was diagnosed as an atypical, or low-grade malignant, glomus tumor morphologically. It seems important to recognize the presence of this type of tumor in sites other than extremities and to differentiate it from other malignant small, round cell tumors.     

人胃癌肿瘤浸润树突状细胞的形态学观察

目的　探讨人胃癌肿瘤浸润树突状细胞 (TIDC)的形态学特征。方法　应用免疫组织化学、光镜和电镜的方法观察人胃癌TIDC的分布和形态学变化。结果　TIDC主要分布癌周区 ,病变早期TIDC比病变晚期数量 (P <0 0 1)。电镜下 ,TIDC体积较大 ,形态不规则 ,表面有许多树突状突起 ,细胞核不规则 ,可见核仁 ,胞质内有丰富的线粒体、核糖体、高尔基复合体和内质网。TIDC与肿瘤浸润淋巴细胞 (TIL)和肿瘤接触方式和形式上呈多样性 ,一对一 ,一对多 ,或形成簇的接触方式 ,有紧密膜接触、指状膜接触和球状膜接触形式。结论　本实验提示TIDC数量多少与肿瘤的进展有关 ,TIDC与肿瘤浸润淋巴细胞和肿瘤细胞之间关系密切。     

Extrapleural solitary fibrous tumor: clinicopathologic study of 17 cases and molecular analysis of the p53 pathway

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) occurring at various extrapleural sites is sometimes difficult to diagnose because of its histologic variability. Although a solitary fibrous tumor is usually a slow-growing tumor with favorable prognosis, a small number of malignant cases have been reported. In the present study, we examined the clinical behavior, histologic, immunohistochemical and molecular features of 17 cases of extrapleural SFT. Four tumors were located in the pelvic cavity, two in the nasal cavity, two were confined to the pulmonary parenchyma, and there was one each in the meninges, kidney, mediastinum, retroperitoneum, temporal region, neck, groin, buttock and thigh. Histologically, all the tumors were characterized by the presence of areas consisting of a proliferation of bland spindle cells with variable amounts of thick, often hyalinized or keloid-like intercellular collagen bundles. Highly cellular areas were observed in three tumors, frequent mitoses in two, and cellular pleomorphism and tumor necrosis in one each. All 17 tumors showed immunoreactivity to CD34 and 15 (88%) to bcl-2 protein. The labeling indices of p53, mdm2 protein and Ki-67 were generally low. PCR-SSCP and a subsequent sequence analysis of the p53 gene disclosed point mutation at codon 161 in exon 5 in one of the 13 cases analyzed. According to follow-up information, none of the patients had developed local recurrence or distant metastasis. Our results suggest that most extrapleural SFTs behave in a benign fashion even in a higher histologic grade group, and it is difficult to predict their clinical outcome. Complete surgical excision in order to obtain clear margins and long-term follow-up is advisable for patients with an extrapleural SFT.
