Principles of surgical training have not changed, but methods of training are evolving very fast. Online tools are being adopted in both knowledge and skills training for surgical residents. As a result, to evaluate the outcome of these tools, online assessment is also developing. Knowledge resources are very diverse ranging from lectures, webinars, surgical videos to three-dimensional planning and printing. Skills resources include virtual reality simulators, remote skills training and interdisciplinary teamwork. Assessment of E-learning tools can be performed using online questions, task-based simulations, branching scenarios and online interviews/discussions. In thoracic surgery, video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) lobectomy simulator has been developed and it appears to be an important tool for minimally invasive thoracic surgery education. Training programs incorporate e-Learning in their curriculum and online training and assessment will become an important part of thoracic surgical training as well.  相似文献

ObjectivesThis literature review attempts to explore the characteristics of e-learning tools used to develop the qualifications and skills of healthcare professionals in medical imaging and radiation therapy, and to promote the effectiveness and acceptance of e-learning through highlighting the outcomes of its implementation where applicable.Key findingsFrom the literature search in the PubMed and ResearchGate databases we concluded to 21 articles, which were included in the qualitative synthesis. Acceptance of e-learning tools was confirmed. Also, e-learning can be part of healthcare professionals' blended learning. The acquisition of new or improvement of existing knowledge, the improvement of clinical skills and the increase of the self-confidence of healthcare professionals in their daily practice were recorded, as outcomes of the e-learning implementation. The importance of human–computer interaction for the comprehension of theoretical concepts and practical aspects using multimedia was also captured. No significant findings emerged among the 21 articles against the adoption of the e-learning for the training of healthcare professionals. The Internet is the channel used for synchronous and asynchronous interaction of trainees with instructors.ConclusionsWe concluded that e-learning is an attractive training method, equally or occasionally more effective than the traditional educational methods for the lifelong training of healthcare professionals in the field of medical imaging and radiation therapy. Also, many collaborative web-based applications provide the necessary means to build an e-learning program, according to the training needs of each professional team.Implications for practiceThis new knowledge corroborates the perspective of e-learning beneficial contribution to remote interaction and collaboration of healthcare professionals in medical imaging and radiation therapy. Collaborative web-based tools are already available to decision makers and stakeholders, who want to develop an e-learning program.  相似文献

PurposeThe Internet is an important information source for health practitioners providing immediate access to the most current health and medical information. Factors limiting practitioner access to the Internet have been identified and the literature shows that access to the Internet varies across and within health professions. There is therefore a need for each health profession to investigate practitioner access to the Internet. There has been, however, no identified empirical research investigating medical radiation science (MRS) practitioner access to or use of the Internet. This research sought to establish the professional use of Internet-based tools by Australian MRS practitioners and issues affecting access to the Internet within MRS workplaces.MethodsQualitative and quantitative approaches were used in this research. These included interviews with 28 MRS practitioners from the four areas of specialisation, namely nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, radiography and sonography and a survey of MRS practitioners. In 2007 a 4-page postal survey was sent to a random sample of 1142 MRS practitioners with a response rate of 32.8%.ResultsThe Internet is an important information source widely used by MRS practitioners. MRS practitioners search the Internet (87%), access specific web pages (86%), use email (82%) and listservs (39.4%) to update their professional knowledge. It was evident that access to the Internet within the workplace varied within the MRS profession. Whilst the majority (96.4%) of MRS practitioners had some level of access to the Internet in their workplace, factors shown to affect practitioner access were workplace setting (p = 0.000), work environment (p = 0.000), and geographic location (p = 0.025). The majority of clinical workplaces (81%) did not provide practitioners with remote access to electronic resources available in the workplace such as e-journals and databases.ConclusionsThis research provides baseline data to the MRS profession on the professional use of the Internet by MRS practitioners and issues limiting the accessibility of information available through the Internet to MRS practitioners. These issues must be addressed by organisations such as professional societies, registration bodies and workplaces that currently recognise or mandate that MRS practitioners must stay up-to-date with the changing knowledge base of their profession.  相似文献

Interprofessional learning is seen as increasingly important for all health and social care workers. How this is integrated into the education of these workers is less clear and more of a challenge. This article describes an online learning activity used to facilitate interprofessional learning in a Faculty of Health and Social Care in the UK. An online conference was used to bring students together, utilising a real life case scenario based around a family within a virtual town. Students from a variety of programmes and professional groups participated in an asynchronous discussion forum. The student evaluation of this event was, on the whole, positive and suggests further development of such an approach would address some of the challenges of interprofessional learning.  相似文献

Purpose

Due to the time factor in polytraumatized patients all relevant pathologies in a polytrauma computed tomography (CT) scan have to be read and communicated very quickly. During radiology residency acquisition of effective reading schemes based on typical polytrauma pathologies is very important. Thus, an online tutorial for the structured diagnosis of polytrauma CT was developed.

Materials and methods

Based on current multimedia theories like the cognitive load theory a didactic concept was developed. As a web-environment the learning management system ILIAS was chosen. CT data sets were converted into online scrollable QuickTime movies. Audiovisual tutorial movies with guided image analyses by a consultant radiologist were recorded.

Results

The polytrauma tutorial consists of chapterized text content and embedded interactive scrollable CT data sets. Selected trauma pathologies are demonstrated to the user by guiding tutor movies. Basic reading schemes are communicated with the help of detailed commented movies of normal data sets. Common and important pathologies could be explored in a self-directed manner.

Conclusions

Ambitious didactic concepts can be supported by a web based application on the basis of cognitive load theory and currently available software tools.  相似文献
