Metabolic response to beet fibre test meals

Test meals with 10.9 g dietary fibre from sugar beet and corresponding control meals were given to eight healthy subjects, aged 67 ± 9 years. The postprandial glucose, triglyceride, hormone and glycerol responses were monitored during 3 hours. After the beet fibre meal the insulin and C-peptide areas were reduced by 28 ( P < 0.01) and 22% ( P > 0.025), respectively, and the somatostatin levels increased by approximately 30% ( P > 0.05). Further, the maximum relative postprandial reduction of plasma glycerol levels was less evident after the fibre-rich meal than after the control meal (36 ± 4% v. 46 ± 4%, P < 0.05). There was no apparent difference in the overall glycaemic response between the meals. The triglyceride levels were similar after both test meals.
Suspension of beet fibre bread given to rats by oro-gastric intubation induced lower blood glucose response than a control bread at 15 and 30 min ( P < 0.001), respectively, but a similar insulin response.
The results suggest an effect of beet fibre on the rate of carbohydrate absorption, expressed as a lower insulin response in the healthy volunteers and a reduced glucose response in the rat.
The mechanism behind this effect in healthy subjects could possibly be mediated by an increased somatostatin response.     

EFFECTS OF BKCa CHANNELS ON THE REDUCTION OF CYTOSOLIC Ca2+ IN cGMP-INDUCED RELAXATION OF GUINEAPIG TRACHEA

1. In order to examine the mechanisms of cGMP-induced relaxation in airway smooth muscle, the effects of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and 8-brom cGMP on muscle tone were studied by measuring isometric tension, while the effects on cytosolic Ca²⁺ concentrations were studied by measuring the spectra of fura-2 loaded in guinea-pig tracheal strips. 2. Atrial natriuretic peptide and 8-brom cGMP caused a concentration-dependent inhibition of spontaneous tone in the guinea-pig trachea. The relaxant effects of these agents on spontaneous tone were markedly suppressed in the presence of iberiotoxin (IbTX), a selective inhibitor of large-conductance Ca²⁺-activated K⁺ (BKca) channels. Iberiotoxin (30 nmol/L) markedly affected the maximal effect induced by ANP and 8-brom cGMP and augmented EC₇₀ values for ANP and EC₅₀values for 8-brom cGMP approximately 27- and 17-fold, respectively. The inhibitory effects of IbTX on relaxation induced by these agents were diminished in the presence of 1 μmol/L nifedipine, an antagonist of voltage-operated Ca²⁺channels (VOCC). 3. The inhibitory action of ANP and 8-brom cGMP on spontaneous tone was not affected by the presence of 10 μmol/L glibenclamide, an inhibitor of ATP-sensitive K⁺ channels, and 100 nmol/L apamin, an inhibitor of small-conductance Ca²+-activated K⁺ channels. When these agents were applied to tissues precontracted by high (40mmol/L) K⁺, the relaxant effects of these agents markedly diminished. 4. The extracellular Ca²⁺-dependent contraction was inhibited in the presence of 0.3 μmoI/L ANP or 0.1 mmol/L 8-brom cGMP. Concentration—response curves to extracellular Ca²⁺ (0.03—2.4 mmol/L) were markedly diminished by exposure to these agents. The maximal effect induced by extracellular Ca²⁺ was affected by these agents. 5. Atrial natriuretic peptide caused an inhibition of spontaneous tone accompanied by a reduction in the intracellular Ca²⁺ concentration. In the presence of IbTX, the elimination of both muscle tone and cytosolic Ca²⁺ by ANP was suppressed. 6. We conclude that ANP and 8-brom cGMP activate BKca channels and that the inhibition of Ca²⁺ influx through VOCC, mediated by BKca channel activation, may be involved in cGMP-dependent bronchodilation.

目的：研究常规扩张（ＩＴＥ）和持续快速扩张（ＣＴＥ）对皮肤胶原代谢的影响。方法用白色小家猪制作组织扩张术动物模型，用Ｇｏｒｄｅｌａｄｚｅ法测定血清和扩张组织的羟脯氨酸（ＨＰ）含量，藻酸盐印模材膜片法测量标记区面积；光镜测量真皮厚度。结果：ＩＴＥ组血清ＨＰ含量升高，０．８倍，ＣＴＥ组升高１．２倍，ＩＴＥ和ＣＴＥ组皮肤含量与正常皮肤相同，组织中ＨＰ总量均明显升高，持续扩张皮瓣组（ＣＴＥＦ）术后４ｗｋ皮     

电脑控制连续式料位仪的研制

论述了电脑控制连续式料位仪的原理及性能，研制了一种先进可靠的物料料位测量工具。     

带蒂胸腹轴型皮瓣早期修复上肢深度蛇伤溃疡

总结胸腹轴型皮瓣早期修复上肢不同部位的深度蛇伤溃疡的经验，评价其应用价值。本组１６例，胸脐皮瓣２例，侧胸腹皮瓣１例，髂腰皮瓣５例，下腹皮瓣６例，下腹分叶皮瓣１例，髂腰加下腹Ｙ形皮瓣１例。术后１例皮瓣远端坏死，３例轻度感染，１６例断蒂后全部成活。随访３个月～７年，皮瓣质地和弹性均好，手功能基本恢复。认为，带蒂胸腹轴型皮瓣是修复上肢深度蛇伤溃疡理想的方法。     

Suicide substrate reaction-diffusion equations: Varying the source

The suicide substrate reaction is a model for certain enzyme-inhibitingdrugs. This reaction system is examined assuming that the substratediffuses freely while the enzyme remains fixed. Two sets ofinitial and boundary conditions are examined: one modellingan instantaneous point source, akin to an injection of substrate,the other, a continuous point source, akin to a continuing influx,or intravenous drip, of substrate. The quasi-steady-state assumptionis applied to obtain analytical solutions for a limited parameterspace. Finally, further applications of numerical and analyticalexperimentation on pharmaceutical mechanisms are described.

Influences of context on early writing development

Research on children's early writing development in the past has focused primarily on product and process. In reviewing the more recent research on early writing development, however, a new focus of context emerges. Occurrences of literacy are now being observed in the home, the school, and the community. With this new emphasis, comes the task of defining context. A definition of context reflects theoretical perspectives, areas of research interests, and types of methodologies employed in conducting research. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to address the following aspects of context: #op1#cp multidiscipline perspectives and definitions of context, #op2#cp contextual shifts observed between the home and the school, #op3#cp contextual factors present when learning how to write, and #op4#cp pedagogical implications for curriculum development.
