ObjectiveTo study formation course of meridians an d its history culture background and explore details so as to reflect objectively connotation of meridians. MethodsBy a great number of studies on ancient literature of meridians, it is indicated that meridians are comprehen sive reflection of functions of various organs in the living body. ConclusionTheory of meridians is a derivative theory established on the basis of Yin, Yang and five-elements theory, and the formation course of meridians is induced and raised as theory of meridians from phenomena of meridians. Meridians are complete combination of visible and invisible and the maximum reflection of wholism in TCM. Meridians and their theories have been effectively directing clinical practice in thousand years.
