| Abstract: | An account is given of the treatment of peptic oesophagitis, in which the importance of repairing a hernia which is producing peptic ulceration is emphasized. Mobilization of the oesophagus muct be carried out as far up as is necessary for the hernia to reduce without tension. When there is a firm stricture which will not respond to treatment, associated with shortening of the oesophagus, resection and interposing a loop of jejunum is the operation of choice which in this series has been performed without mortality. |
