Abstract: | Ninety-two deaths resulting from the use of contrast media are described and analyzed together with 228 deaths reported earlier. Of these new deaths, 11 were associated with angiography, 28 with intravenous cholangiography and 53 with urography or C.T. The majority of deaths were associated with cardiac arrest or pulmonary oedema. The mode of death appears to be unrelated to the formulation of the contrast media. The suddenness of the demise and the organs affected suggest that a neurologic mechanism may be involved. |
