| Abstract: | The new techniques used for identifying causal germs in infective endocarditis are reviewed. Techniques such as polymerase chain reaction are now used to identify previously unrecognised germs. Choosing the appropriate microbiologic technique requires close collaboration between clinicians and microbiologists. |
