Abstract:An unusual case of nonfunctioning islet cell carcinoma is presented. The patient presented with obstructive jaundice and survived thirteen years after palliative cholecystojejunostomy. Five other cases of obstructive jaundice produced by islet cell carcinomas of the pancreas have been reported. The prognosis of these tumors is considerably better than with the usual periampullary carcinoma and possibly better than with most islet cell carcinomas. Definite microscopic diagnosis of nonresectable tumors of the periampullary area is encouraged.
