Senile Macular Degeneration – The Effects and Management

This third paper in the series on the effects and management of senile macular degeneration (SMD), describes the ophthalmic management of early SMD. The roles of fundus examination, fundus photography and fluorescein angiography in the diagnosis of the condition are detailed. Criteria for referral of patients with suspected SMD for ophthalmological investigation and possible treatment are given and the cause and treatment of SMD is discussed.
