Abstract: | Objective To evaluate the effect of super-flux polyethersulfone dialysis membrane on the removal of ADMA. Methods Ten stable HD patients were involved,who had been treated with conventional high-flux polyethersulfone dialysis for more than 3 months,and then dialyzed by super-flux polyethersulfone dialysers for 4 weeks. ADMA,L-arginine and albumin were determined in pre-HD,post-HD blood and in the dialysate respectively at baseline,week 2 and week 4. The removal of ADMA was calculated. Results Super-flux polyethersulfone dialyser resulted in a higher dialytic removal of ADMA at week 2 and week 4(P < 0.001 and P = 0.001,respectively). At the 4th week,ADMA as well as L-arginine/ADMA.pre-HD plasma level was significantly lower than baseline (P = 0.003 and 0.001,respectively). Albumin loss and serum albumin were comparable during the whole follow-up period. Conclusion The super-flux polyethersulfone dialyser is superior for removal of ADMA toconventional high-flux polyethersulfone dialysers. Albumin loss is in the acceptable range. Nutrition status is not deteriorated. |
