Effect of postoperative nutritional support by different mode on patients with gastric cancer

Objective To study the rational way of postoperative nutritional support by comparison with different nutritional support mode.Methods 138 cases with gastric cancer were randomized into three groups:parenteral nutrition(PN) group(n=46),early enteral nutrition(EEN) group(n=46) and normal liquid group(n=46).Body weight,serum total protein,albumin,prealbumin and total lymphocytes count were monitored on the first,eighth postoperative day.Hospital stay and cost were marked.Results The decrease body weight in the normal liquid group was more than that in the PN and EEN group(P<0.05).Serum total protein,albumin and prealbumin were significantly increased on the eighth postoperative day compared with the first postoperative day in the EEN and PN groups(P<0.05),and there were significant differences compared with normal liquid group(P<0.05).Total lymphocytes count of the EEN group was significantly increased on the eighth postoperative day(P<0.05).The hospital cost of PN and the normal liquid group was significantly higher than that of EEN groups(P<0.05).The hospital stay of EEN and PN group were significantly shorter than that of the normal liquid group(P<0.05).Conclusion EEN can abstain from the shortcoming of only using the PN in postoperative patients with gastric cancer,and help to maintain and improve the nutrition state and cut down the hospital stay and cost.
