Topiramate in the treatment of refractory partial epilepsy

Objective To explore the clinical effects and adverse reaction of topiramate in the treatment of refractory partial epilepsy.Methods 50 cases with refractory partial epilepsy was treated with topiramate.During the treatment,the clinical effect and adverse reaction were recorded.Results The totally control rate was 48%,and the effective rate was 92%.Kruskal and Wallis test showed that the grade of patients’ situation degrade after the treatment(H=223.7,P<0.05).QOLIE-31 score and DST score was improved(d=9.0±1.3、d=11.1±2.6,P<0.05),and the HAMD score was declined after the use of topiramate for 3 months(d=3.3±0.7,P<0.05).Conclusion Topiramate has a good curative effect and minor side reaction in treating epilepsy.It can relief the symptom,improve the patients situation,reduce the frequency of the onset of refractory partial epilepsy and enlist the life quality of the patient.
