Textual research on Hibisd Cortex,Pseudolaricis Cortex and Cleistocalyds Cortex

Objective To investigate the history of medication of Hibisci Cortex, Pseudolaricis Cortex, Cleistocalycis Cortex and provide the basis for the rational use of these herbals. Methods Herbal literatures in all ages were reviewed and compared with modern research in order to distinguish the three crude drugs. Results Hibisci Cortex is obtained form Hibiscus syriacua L. , the records of which in the past times comply well with the present literatures. Pseudolaricis Cortex and Cleistocalycis Cortex are derived from Pseudolarix kaempferi Gord. and Cleistocalyx operculatus （ Roxb. ） Merr. et Perry respectively. Conclusion The three crude drugs are derived from different species. Their usages and ingredients differ dramatically. Therefore their clinical applications should not be confused but vary with clinical symptoms.
