Significance of systematic continuous sequence approach in prenatal diagnosis of amniotic band syndrome with limb deformity

ObjectiveTo summarize the prenatal sonographic features of amniotic band syndrome limb deformity. MethodsFetal limb examinations were performed on 20 159 pregnant women who underwent prenatal ultrasound examination at the 901st Hospital of PLA from January 2018 to December 2019 using systematic continuous sequence approach. The fetal limb abnormalities with suspected amniotic band syndrome were scanned in detail and their sonographic characteristics were summarized. ResultsFive cases of fetal amniotic band syndrome with limb abnormalities were detected by prenatal ultrasonographic examination, accounted for 0.02% (5/20 159). In one case, one of the fetuses in a twin pregnancy had amniotic band syndrome. Four cases presented with limb deformities and were delivered at term. Termination of pregnancy was selected in one case. The postpartum appearance examination of five cases with limb deformities with amniotic band syndrome was consistent with the results of prenatal ultrasound examination. ConclusionThe region and degree of limb deformities in the fetus with amniotic band syndrome can be clearly diagnosed by using systematic continuous sequence approach in prenatal examination.
