Analysis on Mental Health and Personality of Vocational College Students with Internet Addiction Disorder

Objective To analyze the mental health and personality of vocational college students with internet addiction disorder（IAD） by means of comparative group,discuss the cause and propose the preventive measures.Methods A total of 754 vocational college students in Shanghai completed tests of chinese internet addiction scale（CIAS）,16 personality factor test（16PF）and university personality inventory（UPI）.Results ①15.7% college students were addicated to internet,there were significantly gender and grade differences（χ2=4.521,P0.05 and χ2=11.744,P0.01）.②There were significant differences between students with IAD and normal students for mental health,family structure,family atmosphere,birthplace,major satisfaction and helpers,respectively with χ2=8.336（P〗0.05）,7.873（P0.01）,8.841（P0.01）,9.757（P0.01）,8.019（P0.05）,7.140（P0.05）.③Students with IAD tended to have more negative personality traits,in which stability,persistence,dare,self-discipline,introverted and outgoing,emotional reasoning,mental health,professional achievements and new environment were significantly lower than students non IAD,respectively with t 4.901（P0.001）,5.577（P0.001）,3.236（P0.01）,2.606（P0.05）,2.658（P0.01）,2.478（P0.05）,4.852（P0.001）,4.825（P0.001）,2.474（P0.05）;doubtness,worry,tension,adapting and anxiety were significantly higher,respectively with t 3.432（P0.01）,4.321（P0.001）,3.951（P0.001）,5.173（P0.001）;two personalities of persistence（P0.001） and doubtness（P0.05） significantly predicting IAD.Conclusion IAD is closely related to mental health and personality in vocational college students.
