Abstract:Forty-nine patients with mucosal malignant melanoma of the head and neck treated at six cancer hospitals were reviewed. Of the 49 melanomas, 25 were located in the oral cavity and 24 in the nasal or paranasal cavity. Thirty of them were classified as stage I, 14 as stage II, and five as stage III. The initial treatment modality included surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, cryotherapy and immunotherapy in varying combinations. The five-year survival rate was 17.4% for oral melanoma and 19.1% for nasal and paranasal melanoma.
