| Abstract: | In order to initiate a prevention program forU-thalassemia by prenatal diagnosis in China, wefirst analyzed the DNA polymorphism haplotypes ofthe f3-globin gene cluster in normaJ p gene ([3A) andt3 -bearing chromosomes. We found seven differenthaplotypes for 303A chromosomes and ten differenthaplotypes for 200A chromosomes. Several newhaplotypes were observed, three for [3T and six forCA chromosomes. Complete prenatal diagnosis of f3-thalassemia cottld be carried out in four of ninefamilies by haplotypc analysis alone. |
