| Abstract: | A covered expandable esophageal metallic stent was placed to treat a corrosive esophageal stricture that was refractory to repeated balloon dilations. The stent was removed 8 years after placement due to severe dysphagia. The stented esophageal area has since maintained long-term patency for 2 years. These results suggest the feasibility of removal of a metallic stent after long-term stent placement. |
