Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical application of glycated albumin(GA) for monitoring blood glucose levels among patients with type 2 diabetes.Methods 111 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus enrolled in the hospital were recruited to participate in this study.They were classified into three groups according to the level of HbA,,.,as the first group (HbA_(1c)≤7%,n =24),the second group(7% HbA_(1c) 9%,n = 45),and the third group(HbA_(1c)≥9%,n =42).30 healthy individuals served as controls.The day after participants were enrolled in the hospital,GA,,glycosylated hemoglobin A1C(HbA_(1c)),and fasting blood glucose(FPG_1 ) were measured,the day before they leave hospital,GA was assessed once again(GA_2).Blood glucose was measured even' day when necessary during the whole course of treatment.Mean blood glucose (MPG) for each day and across all days in hospital were therefore calculated.The association between GA and MPG, HbA_(1c) was investigated.The association between the difference of GAAGA(1 -2)]and the difference of mean blood glucose AMPG(1 -2)]was examined for each group.Results There were significant differences in the levels of FPG,, 2hPG_1,MFPG,2hPG,MPG,GA_1 and GA_2 among the three groups.These levels went up with the increase of the HbA_(1c) levels. AMPG(1-2) was positively correlated with AGA(1-2) among the second and the third groups.GA_1 was significantly correlated with HbA_(1c),FPG_1 and 2hPG_1(r =0.789,0.639 and 0.528,P 0.01 for all).Positive correlation was found between GA_2 and MFPG,2hPG,MPG(r =0.586,0.632 and 0.657,P 0.01 for all).Conclusion Findings in this study indicated that GA might be a useful marker for monitoring blood glucose levels of patients with type 2 diabetes.
