Relationship between age and semen routine parameters and sperm DNA integrity of infertile men

Objective To investigate the effect of age on semen routine parameters and sperm DNA integrity in infertile men.Methods 852 infertility men treated in the Department of Reproductive Health of Pingxiang Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Jiangxi Province from September 2015 to July 2019 were selected as the research subjects,and their semen test data were retrospectively analyzed.Patients with normal semen quality were included in the normal group(n=339),and patients with abnormal semen quality were included in the abnormal group(n=513).Semen routine parameters and sperm DNA integrity of patients≥40 years old and<40 years old in all patients,normal group and abnormal group were compared.Results In all patients,normal group and abnormal group,the sperm volume of patients≥40 years old was significantly decreased(P<0.05),and DFI was significantly increased(P<0.05).The risk of DFI>10%was twice more than that of patients<40 years old(OR=2.290,95%CI:1.341~3.913;OR=2.448,95%CI:1.134~5.275;OR=2.184,95%CI:1.062~4.532),while other semen routine parameters had different changes.Conclusions The influence of advanced age on semen routine parameters was different in different patients,but the increase of sperm DFI could occur in all patients.Therefore,the measurement of sperm DFI is more beneficial than semen routine analysis to assess the fertility potential of older men.
