Abstract:Studies of the potential effect of aging on Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) performance have found older adults to perform at an impaired level relative to younger adults. This study examined the sensitivity of the 64-card version of the WCST to age-related changes in 140 healthy adults, ages 20 to 90 years. Results revealed significant linear trends for age, demonstrating decreased competence on variables of accuracy (e.g., Total Errors, Categories) and perseveration.
