Abstract: | The commonest cause of ischaemic carotid territory stroke is thromboembolism from stenoses in the extracranial internal carotid artery (ICA). In the majority, embolism is preceded by an acute change in plaque morphology thereby predisposing the patient to overlying thrombus formation and embolization. |
