Abstract:Bullous lesions are an unusual finding in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). A number of other bullous disorders can coexist with SLE; therefore it is often uncertain whether the bullous eruption represents a manifestation of SLE. Here we present a case of bullous lupus erythematosus (BL) in which the skin lesions preceded other clinical manifestations of SLE. Using a review of 27 other cases of BL in the literature. the differential diagnosis, clinical and histopathologic presentation, and treatment of BL is discussed. Based on this review a set of criteria for the diagnosis of BL is proposed.
