Percutaneous tracheostomy in the intensive care unit

Percutaneous tracheostomy is now established in intensive care practice. However, discussion continues on many aspects of the procedure. This update reviews recent studies of bedside percutaneous tracheostomy, which suggest that the commonly used techniques are safe in terms of short and long-term complications.
