Qualitative research on stress of nurses working in department of acute infectious disease

Objective To probe into the working stress perceived by nurses working in department of acute infectious disease.Methods Phenomenology method was used to interview 8 nurses working in department of acute infectious disease.Results Nurses′ working stress could be summarized into 3 themes: adverse physiological effects,adverse psychological effect which was manifested by lack of security sense and fear of getting infected after an occupational exposure,adverse social effect which was manifested by changes in social adaptability.Conclusion Extensive and persistent support should be offered to nurses working in department of acute infectious disease,and their working stress should be released,so that they can take better care of patients.
