Background investigation report of flies at Shenzhen Bay Port

Objective To master the composition and fluctuation of flies at Shenzhen Bay Port, and provide scientific evidences for flies prevention and port health supervision. Methods From March 2010 to February 2011, the lure - box method was used to investigate the density, species and seasonal growth and decline of the flies in Shenzhen Bay Port. Results 21266 flies were captured and as identified as 14 species, 1 l genera and 4 families. Chrysomyia megacephala was the dominant species, accounting for 81.03%. The density of the flies changed passing of seasons. The average density is 221.52 in each lure - box. Conclusion We have basically the species composition and seasonal fluctuation of the flies at Shenzhen Bay Port in this investigation and could provide scientific guideline for further control of epidemics carried by the flies.
