Abstract:Objective To compare the differences of eye movements between schizophrenics, their first relatives and normal control. Methods 64 schizophrenics (including 26 with prominent symptoms and 38 in relief), 26 their first rank relatives and 35 normal controls were test by Eye Movement Tracker Model IV. According to Discriminate analysis, the subjects were divided into positive score group (schizophrenics disorder group ) and negative score group (non schizophrenics group). Results Discriminant analysis suggested: the average scores were 2.076, 2.571, 2.677 and 0.267 in schizophrenics with prominent symptoms, schizophrenics in relief, the relatives of schizophrenics and normal controls, respectively. There was no difference in Number of Eye Fixation, Cognitive of Search Score, Total of Eye Scanning Length, Mean Eye Scanning Length (MESL)and Responsive of Search score in schizophrenics with or without prominent symptoms. No difference was noted in all these parameters between schizophrenics and their first rank relatives. However, there were significantly different in these parameters between schizophrenics or their first rank relatives and normal controls ( P <0.05). Conclusion Tracks of eye movements are abnormal in schizophrenics and their first rank relatives, suggesting that the abnormal eye movements may be a genetic marker of schizophrenia.
