Abstract:Effect of agmatine on ATP-regulated potassium (KATP)channels was studied using patch-clamp technique in RINm5F insulin- secreting cells. It was found that agmatine 0.1 and 1.0 mmol·L-1 applied to inside face of plasma membrane inhibited openings of KATP channels, and reduced related open-state probability. The inhibition was reversal and concentration- dependent. The data indicate that agmatine may promote insulin secretion from β-cells through interaction with KATP channels.
