摘    要:Hip fractures in the elderly are caused by decades of bone loss, as they grow older. A series of structural changes in bone will occur due to age-related bone loss in the hip. In order to adapt to such changes, the human body tends to preserve mechanically loaded elements. The resistance of fractures in the proximal femur depends on the bone mass and geometry as well as material properties. Up to now, local bone mass, routinely referred to bone mineral density ( BMD ), is the only factor clinically accepted in assessing hip fracture risk. Although dual- energy X-ray absorptiometry ( DXA ) is considered as the standard technique to measure BMD, quantitative computed tomography ( QCT ) is becoming an attractive alternative technique for certain indications. Because it can provide insight into how the femur changes with advancing age. This review highlights the research on QCT in CT examination of the pelvis and hip for BMD and cortical bone loss in the proximal femur.
