Abstract: | Hereditary angioneurotic edema (HAE) is an autosomal dominant disease resulting from a deficiency of functional C1-esterase inhibitor. If not recognized promptly and treated properly the disease can result in a fatal outcome as it causes laryngeal edema, which can lead to a life-threatening acute upper airway obstruction. We present the case of a 37-year-old female with HAE of the larynx, who was diagnosed early and treated properly, together with a review of the literature. |
