Abstract: | The distribution of tyrosine hydroxylase immunoreactivity was investigated in retinae of metamorphic, postmetamorphic and adult lampreys. Immunoreactive cell bodies were located mainly in the innermost part of the inner nuclear layer, with a few cells scattered throughout the inner plexiform layer. The processes of these neurons ran preferentially in the inner plexiform layer. Additionally, dense plexus of labelled processes were observed in the outer plexiform and nuclear layers. These findings suggest that most of the tyrosine hydroxylase-immunoreactive cells in the lamprey retina are interplexiform cells. |
