| Abstract: | The present knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology and pathogenesis of infective endocarditis in both native valve and prosthetic valve endocarditis is described. An attempt has been made to discuss early events in its pathogenesis. This understanding may help in the prevention and management strategies. |
