Abstract:
Objective To report distinction of nasal packing with Vaseline gauze among patients with epistaxis, patients with epistaxis and hypertension, patients with epistaxis and anti-platelet drugs. Methods Two hundred and sixty-seven cases of epistaxis were divided into 62 cases of simple epistaxis group, 64 cases of epistaxis with hypertension and 141 cases of epistaxis with anticoagulant drug application group. We compared the efficiency of these groups with nasal packing therapy; as well as recurrence rate of the effective cases. Results Simple epistaxis patients and epistaxis patients with hypertension showed no significant difference regarding efficiency (96.7%vs 90.6%). Cure rate of nasal packing was lower in epistaxis patients with anticoagulant drug application than epistaxis cases (84.4% vs 96.7%, P <0.05); recurrence rate of simple epistaxis and epistaxis with hypertension had no significant difference (6.5% vs 12.5% ). Patients with epistaxis and antiplatelet drugs had a higher curative rate than those with epistaxis only. Conclusions Hypertension is not an independent risk factor for either therapy methods or packing time of patients with epistaxis. Meanwhile anti-platelet drugs play an important role in therapy methods and packing time of patients with epistaxis.
