PRELIMINARY OBSERVATIONS ON THYROXIN,INSULIN AND CORTISOL REACTIONSFOLLOWING TRAUMA

The authors find that early post traumadepression of thyroxin, insulin and cortisol se-cretion yields poo'r prognosis, as. do lower ins.uliniglucose (I/G)ratios. Cortisol administration isgiven those with low levels during shock foronly a limited period in order to prevent sideeffects. In order to improve insulin and bloodglucose intalie in the early stage, GIK therapyshould be considered. Further study of thyroxinand its metabolic effects is needed.
