Efficacy of Two Glucocorticoids in the Treatment of Corneal Haze After Laser Assisted Subepithelial Keratomileusis

Objective:To assess the effect of different corticosteroids on corneal haze after laser assisted subepithelial keratomileusis(LASEK) and the side effects.Methods:There were 19 patients(38 eyes) with 2-3 ° of corneal haze underwent laser subepithelial corneal abrasion,including 12 patients treated only with 0.1% Fluorometholone eye drops and 7 patients treated with Fluorometholone + 0.1% dexamethasone eye drops(0.1% Fluorometholone eye drops for 4 to 6 months;0.1% dexamethasone eye drops for 1 month).Results:In corneal haze,16 patients had complete regression,2 patients were less than 1 °,and 1 patient was close to 4 °.In visual acuity,31 eyes were 1.0 to 1.2,6 eyes were 0.8,and 1 eye was 0.7.In intraocular pressure,after 6 to 24 months' follow-up,28 eyes reached normal level,10 eyes increased by 4.3-17.6 mmHg,in which 8 eyes received combination therapy and 2 eyes received monotherapy,and all cases with abnormal intraocular pressure were recovered to normal after symptomatic treatment.Conclusion:0.1% Fluorometholone eye drops can effectively cure corneal haze after LASEK,and conventional medicine has few side effects;0.1% dexamethasone eye drops do not play a unique and significant role in the treatment of corneal haze,and the side effects that increase intraocular pressure are apparent,so it is not appropriate for the common use in refractive surgery.
