Research progress of autonomic neuroprotection in radical treatment of rectal cancer

Rectal cancer is a common digestive tract malignant tumor,and its incidence is increasing year by year. According to GLOBOCAN 2020, rectal cancer accounts for 38% and 34% of all new cancer cases and deaths globally, ranking eighth and tenth, respectively. Surgery is the main treatment for rectal cancer. The pelvic autonomic nerve(PAN) could be damaged in the patients with middle and low rectal cancer who received total mesorectal excision（TME）, resulting in postoperative dysfunction of rectal cancer. With the development of medical technology and the improvement of patients requirements for life quality,it is also the basic requirement of TME surgery to protect patients genitourinary function on the basis of radical tumor resection. The protection of PAN during radical resection of rectal cancer can effectively improve the prognosis and quality of life of patients.
