s: The reason for Wang Guowei's suicide has always been a concern for certain scholars during the past 70 years. Most of the five related theories are single-faceted analysis which is far from being complete and convincing. It is thus note-worthy that various reasons contribute to the death of Wang Guowei. The war upheaval at the turn of Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China made it impossible for Wang to concentrate on his studies, which drove Wang into deep depression and even the thought of death. The bad news of the arrival of the Northern Expeditionary Army put Wang in even deeper concern about his academic prospect. His pessimistic character finally pushed him into committing suicide.
