Abstract: | Ten monkeys' index fingers were amputated, cooled, and replanted approximately twenty-four hours later using magnesium sulphate, persantin and aspirin. The first three experiments resulted in complete necrosis of the replant because heparin was not given. In the remainder of the experiments heparin was added, and five of the final seven replants were complete survivals with confirmation of vessel patency by angiograms.Histological studies reveal that while the healing processes demonstrated by the development of elastin fibrils was impaired, vessel patency was not disturbed. |
