Expression of p21 protein and nm23 protein in colorectal cancer and their prognostic values

Objective: To explore the relationship between clinicobiological acting and expression of p21 protein and nm23 protein in colorectal cancer. Methods: The intensity of expression of p2l protein and nm23 protein for 206 cases of colorectal cancers were detected by immunohistochemistry assay (LSAB ) respectively. Results: The expression of p21 protien was not correlated with that of nm23 protein for colorectal cancer(r = -0. 1536). The intensity of expression of p21 protein and nm23 protein in colorectal cancers were not related with patient's age, sex, tumor location, pathological type, histological type, Dukes' stage and so on(P > 0. 05 ). Both the expressions were significantly correlated with the prognosis of colorectal cancer (P < 0. 01 ). The higher the intensity of expression of p2l protein the worse the patient's prognosis,and the higher the intensity of expression of nm23 protein the better the patient's prognosis. Conclusions: The abnormal expression of p21 protein is not correlated with the erroneous expression of nm23 protein in colorectal cancer. The detection of p21 protein and nm23 protein are helpful for diagnosis and prognostic evaluation for colorectal cancer.
