Expression of heparin-binding epidermal growth factor-like growth factor in breast carcinoma

Abstract:	The expression of heparin-binding epidermal growth factor-like growth factor (HB-EGF) was investigated for 76 cases of breast carcinoma. HB-EGF was expressed in 71.8% of the carcinoma cases but only slightly in normal mammary glands. Interestingly, its expression was inversely related to biological aggressiveness of the breast carcinoma. These results suggest that HB-EGF may play a crucial role in the early stage of this carcinoma.
