Factors of academic counseling needs of undergraduates in TCM colleges and universities:Taking Beijing University of Chinese medicine as an example

Objective This paper aims to investigate the related factors of academic counseling needs of undergraduate students in TCM colleges and universities, identify the main problems and put forward suggestions. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among 1528 undergraduates in Beijing University of Chinese Medicine(BUCM), SPSS 23.0 was used to analyze the students’ basic information, learning status, academic problems and academic counseling needs. Results There are nine influencing factors of academic counseling needs, among which professional preference, professional prospect and goal setting ranking the first three factors which decrease the needs of academic counseling, while inadaptation to college life and high pressure due to studying are two most mentioned factors of academic counseling needs. Conclusion The research contributes to the better understanding of factors of academic counseling needs of TCM students as well as formulating relevant policies by the university, which will improve the quality of academic counseling.
